Can you host a destination wedding during pandemic restrictions and policies? The answer is yes! The key is social distancing, adhering to the CDC protocol, and making sure your friends and family are comfortable and safe during the process. That’s exactly what Hannah + Timothy did for their desert-inspired day at the Four Seasons Scottsdale. From the look of these pictures, you would never say that this day has come together after countless new plans and Covid-19 adjustments. Calluna events with the couple planned for 1.5 years and the result? A beautifully designed day with socially distant family-style reception seating, an atmospheric color palette and a wedding dress that the bride dreamed of for 4 years! H shares:
Our inspiration for the day was to highlight the beautiful, rich tones of the desert. Draw out the warmth of the sunset with colors like purple pinks and oranges and complement them with cool, moody shades of purples and greens. We both feel strongly drawn to nature, even though we live in the city. The feeling of being completely immersed in it was the key to design for us. The big tickets for us were “Disco Music, Bolo Ties, Earth Tones and Family”. Regardless of whether a provider was hired or a design was communicated, this list steered our planning process in such a way that our goal is achieved.

Details of the day
You can really see the desert theme take shape with these wedding invitations from Summit and Sage + Megan M Makes Calligraphy.
We love that H paired her tulle dress with these bridal boots!
Sweet moments with the bride
H shone positively on the wedding day! She made her bridal beauty look natural with gold makeup and flowing waves from Makiaj Beauty.
Atmospheric sunset colors like H described! The wildflower used some of our favorite flowers like ranunculus, tulip, scabiosa, and zinnia.

Wedding ceremony in the desert
This setup gives us great boho desert vibes and we are here for it !!
Isn’t this wooden ceremony backdrop from Dang Fine Rentals a fun and unique backdrop idea ?!
Let marital bliss begin!
Instead of a classic wedding rehearsal, Tim and I decided to hike the Pinnacle Peak Trail with our guests at sunset. It was a unique way for us to hang out with everyone, see a kickass sunset, and follow the COVID safety protocol! Tim and I will never forget the moment when we rested at the base of the mountain to catch our breath and look up. All we could see was our friends and family mingling and enjoying themselves as their laughter echoed down the winding path. After months of planning and the risk that this day will be postponed at any time, all emotions hit us. That moment was so powerful for us to witness because it all became real and it finally happened, all because of us and a whole ton of faith.
Everything about this wedding dress
We’re in love with this muted, blushing wedding dress from Inbal Dror and we can see why H has been longing for it for over 4 years! She shares:
While working in the wedding industry, I had the opportunity to support a bridal tribe show at Dimitra’s Bridal. When I was plating food for customers, a model walked past me wearing this dress and my heart knew it was my dress. Since I was incredibly single at the time, the chances that it was still available when I was a bride were slim. I said positive things to myself like, “At least I know what style I liked!” or “Maybe there is something close by when it’s my time!” …
When Tim suggested, I immediately texted Tina at Dimitra’s Bridal and asked if the dress was still there. Sure enough 4 years later! My mother and I booked an appointment straight away, Tina pulled it out of the mannequin for “safekeeping” and it became mine within an hour!
Destination wedding reception pandemic log
H + T hosted a socially distant wedding reception with the needs and comfort of their guests in mind. Keep scrolling to see how they did it!
I think the best decision we ever made in our planning process was to make the COVID rules subtle, but with a strong goal. One way to do this was to have our guests seated at tables based on their “bubble exposure”. When our guests saw this at the reception, they were absolutely delighted. That decision cleared any tension they might have about possible COVID exposure, and it was a refreshing change to the typical wedding seats too. Our guests saw it as an opportunity to enjoy a nice date with their partner or to spend an evening with their children for a fancy dinner. This really was a huge win and we believe that this and the compulsory wearing of masks were the reasons we had a successful COVID-free wedding.
Glamor + Woods furniture and table rental prove that you can still offer your guests a nice atmosphere with socially distant seating. Another tip from H + T for finding the best wedding providers during the pandemic?
Choosing your suppliers is a daunting and overwhelming process. If you are into the mindset of finding people to be friends with (who are also mega-talented), you can’t go wrong. These are people with whom you not only communicate over a long period of time, but also capture some of the most intimate moments of your life. When you consider them family or friends, you will feel more comfortable enjoying your wedding day and being yourself.
Attacking a wedding in a destination during the pandemic isn’t easy, but Hannah + Timothy have proven it can! Congratulations to you both! The GWS team welcomes your creativity and your commitment to have a nice and safe day. I only wish you the best for the future!
