Hannah + Ben met when they were just 15 years old. A costume party with superhero motifs started her journey into eternity, but the fun and crazy cool vibe didn’t stop there! These two are all about adventure, which is why they traveled to Iceland following their original wedding plans. Fast forward to the 2020 pandemic, and they had to change their plans quickly. It all worked out better than they had dreamed of when they took their vows in a retro-inspired elopement at Cape Kiwanda, surrounded by dried boho flowers and their beloved pup. They even rounded off the day with board games, roller skating, and the hot tub. We let H share more:
After we got engaged, we went back and forth between a big wedding at the camp we met and an intimate wedding in a place like Alaska / Iceland / Scotland. Ultimately, we decided to have an intimate wedding in Iceland for June 2020. Fast forward to March 2020 and the Covid pandemic. We almost immediately canceled our wedding in Iceland because we wanted people to get refunds while traveling. After that, we only had a few months to completely re-plan our elopement, but it should be. At the end of the day it really wasn’t about our wedding, it really was about the beginning of our marriage and I wasn’t going to change anything!
Dawn Jarvis captured the day with beautiful, moody pictures. Ready to see Let’s go!
A muted color palette
As the day revolved around boho vibes and retro inspiration, a muted color palette of ivory, rust and blush set the stage.
Nature-oriented and environmentally friendly
For H + B it was important to make the wedding as environmentally friendly as possible:
We tried not to use single-use plastic as decor or things that we could no longer use. Many of our flowers were dried so we kept them in our house for decoration. The carpet we got married on is now in our living room. I love it because we have little memories of our wedding day all over our home!
Retro-inspired elopement with dried floral background
Blushing Bloom Creative was the mastermind behind the bohemian style flower arrangements. Your ceremony designs almost look like they were created naturally, right there on the coast!
The perfect clothing for a retro-inspired elopement
We are very much in love with H’s lace covered bridal gown. It’s the perfect combination of relaxation and bride! She made this great find at A and Be Bridal Shop.
It’s so hard to choose just one moment! I know everyone says that, but it really was a perfect day. One of my favorites was that we wanted to spend the morning together. We enjoyed our breakfast and wrote our vows in our books. We parted while getting ready, but it was so comforting to spend some time before it all started just the two of us.
We love such sweet moments !!
Love on wheels
H + B love roller skates and skateboards. The perfect way to celebrate their vows was to dress up and skate on the beach!
Newlyweds photos on the coast
Even though they didn’t get married in Iceland, H + B still got their adventurous and epic views!
How about that for the perfect bridal hairpiece? This delicate, retro-inspired bridal crown from Mignonne Handmade is the perfect accent for H’s wedding attire!
For anyone getting married out there, I would recommend planning your wedding day on purpose! You only get married once. I really feel that it should reflect your love and personality. We found out what is important to us and spent our money there.
