Not strapless wedding dresses

Let me start by saying that there’s nothing wrong with a strapless dress (I mean, my own dress was strapless!), But if you’re not considering strapless wedding dresses, this is where the style options really open up! Stop by and check out some of the standout non-strapless wedding dresses I have photographed over the years:

Thin straps

If you like the look of a bare cleavage but are concerned that a strapless dress will leave you with the pesky problem of having to pull your dress up all day, a strappy wedding dress might be a good compromise. It doesn’t have to be spaghetti straps, either – check out the floral straps of some amazing Galia Lahav dresses at Intimate Wedding in Los Angeles and Hotel Bel Air Wedding.

Illusion cutout

Illusion neckline dresses usually have a design laid on a sheer fabric, giving the impression that the embroidery or beads are just sitting on the skin. Designers can get really creative with this technique and you can put on a dress that is really one of a kind! Alyssa’s dress at her Sunstone Winery wedding is a lovely example of this style – I love the way the flowers look like they are running down her back.

sleeve

The sleeves are undoubtedly classic and work well in more formal settings. I was blown away by Sue Jean’s beautiful convertible Monique Lhuillier dress! The laced sleeves were so classic and went perfectly with the solemn garden ceremony. In the evening she could take off the sleeves and turn them into a sexy strapless dress. Another favorite is Vera Wang’s dress, which Caroline wore to her French themed wedding at the Calamigos Ranch. I liked the unexpected oversized bow in the back that added a little whimsy to an otherwise traditional look!

As you can see, non strapless wedding dresses are far from boring and open up a world of possibilities when it comes to wedding dress styles!
