Today’s bride literally made us laugh with her wedding planning advice: imagine your plan F, all bets are on, this is a pretty disastrous wedding … but guess what? She is not wrong! Nakita + Tristan’s backyard micro-wedding was planned by removing all distractions and focusing on the essentials, even with everything else going south:
When it is indeed your wedding day, you will find that your “dream wedding” is the one where you have the most time to actually enjoy the day with your new spouse.
Nakita was the radiant bride in a hi-low BHLDN dress in every way, while Tristan rocked a pink and red floral suit like a pro. Liv Hettinga Photography captured all the magical moments of the relaxed celebration… let’s take a look!
Pink + Burgundy + Happy All Over
I love this lineup!
The flowers from N + T’s Day from Honest Floral are so good. The colors and textures led to the low key, impactful design of the day – sometimes that’s all you need!
About the wedding rings … it’s a cute and fun story!
We wanted tattoos instead of wedding rings so we decided on matching finger tattoos. I have the moon and Tristan has the sun. We think it represents us because the moon and sun are opposites. But apparently we’re not “across” enough for either of us to stop and make sure we have the tattoo on the right hand. We got our wedding ring tattoos on the wrong hand !!
Flowers for the groom
Tristan wore the coolest jacket with pink flowers and a burgundy lapel from ASOS!
The sweet backyard micro wedding ceremony
Nakita’s maid of honor wrote and sang a song that was accompanied by the best man as she walked down the aisle! How nice is that
The ceremony was so overwhelming, but so perfect. The whole day flew by so fast and before I knew it I was standing next to my parents and wanted to walk down the aisle !! I hadn’t even seen how the venue was set up. And we were late. I panicked for a minute. But then I was walking down the aisle and every detail was so perfect. The back yard looked even better than I imagined, and our bridal shower looks came together so perfectly. I saw the faces of so many loved ones smiling at me. And of course I saw Tristan.
The best part was his vow. He’s usually not good at articulating his feelings, so it really surprised me that his vows were so beautiful and personal. And so funny !! It meant so much to me and it was a wonderful moment.
OMG isn’t that the best photo ever ?! And Tristan actually built the pink neon heart for the ceremony!
Intimate backyard reception
You guys these tables are the cutest!
Can literally feel love
Here come the newlyweds
Stop imagining your dream wedding and try imagining your plan F where all bets are closed and this is a disaster. If that happened, what more elements would make this day amazing even though it wasn’t exactly what you were up to? Which parts are most important to you and your partner? Focus your day on these elements.
The fact is, things don’t always go according to plan and it is better to be flexible than to be stressed and unhappy. Better to have a smaller, more low-key wedding where you have time to actually enjoy the day than a large event where you don’t even have time to say hello to everyone you invite! When it is indeed your wedding day, you will find that your “dream wedding” is the one that you have the most time to actually enjoy the day with your new spouse.
Donuts and bright lights – it couldn’t be better! Congratulations to Nakita + Tristan!
