Bridal Shower

The right way to throw a digital bachelorette occasion

For the past month and a half my mantra has gone from "how to be a responsible bridesmaid" to "how to be a responsible bridesmaid" during COVID-19”. While there is only so much you can achieve during social distancing, you won't win the title of greatest maid of honor of all time (GMOHOAT) without getting creative.

This is where I come in. I have read all kinds of virtual hangouts that are happening these days and learned all the fun tips and tricks to make them special. Combine that with everything I know about throwing a real Bach bash and voila: the recipe for a virtual bachelor party.

Send personalized evites

Let your fellow bridesmaids know that your group has gone from personal to online by sending electronic invitations.

Check out Greenvelope for a lot of fun. You have an entire section dedicated to customizable virtual event video.

Here is a little insight:

Don't skip the decor

Just because you don't all meet in the same place doesn't mean that your Bachelorette has to do without decorations altogether.

Instead, have your bridesmaid colleagues apply some fun decorations that you can send directly to the bride. Yes, it has to decorate itself, but it will still feel special when you go the extra mile.

If you want to save some money, you can get smart by creating a custom zoom background for your group. Here's how.

Bonus: Check out these completely FREE Canva templates!

Play some games

While this virtual bachelor party is a great time for everyone to chat and meet, you still want to have some fun games to play on the go.

For those of you who don't know your bridesmaid colleagues so well, consider adding some icebreakers (also called drinking games) to loosen everyone up. We think our quarantine printouts should do the trick!

Or just keep it virtual by downloading the Houseparty app, or create a personalized quiz with the Kahoot! App.

Wear matching outfits

This is a very important step in planning a virtual bachelor party. Social distance has made us all do it, so this is the perfect excuse to get out of these sweats.

Whether you want to do everything you can to rock your best LBD, or just keep it simple by putting on a few matching bridal tribal t-shirts, this extra effort will mean a lot to your future wife.

If you're talking about extra effort, send the Bachelorette a bespoke sash and / or future bridal veil to make her feel like the queen she is!

Coordinate cocktails

There's no better way to make your virtual bachelorette party feel like a real bachelor party than to get everyone ready for cocktails.

Find a fun signature drink that anyone can make at home, or have everyone make it with their favorite bottle of wine.

Save your bride a trip to the store by contacting your bridesmaid colleagues to have them delivered straight to your door through companies Drizly or winc.

Create a collaborative playlist

Make yourself comfortable with your bride's favorite songs by creating a shared playlist on Spotify that anyone can play during the virtual bachelor party.

Have everyone add at least one song to the playlist that reminds them of the bride, and when that song appears, let them tell the story of why.

Bonus points to turn your Bach party into a virtual dance or karaoke party!

Finish with a special note

While all bachelor parties must end, the end of a virtual bachelor party is much more final.

Before everyone clicks "Leave Meeting" and turns off their laptop, you should plan something special for your bride.

Here are my 3 favorite ideas:

  • Plan a “special guest” appearance for a beloved bridal partner like his mother or grandmother. You can even have the groom call from another room to surprise his future wife.
  • Have everyone prepare a little speech for the bride and give it alternately. Take the extra step by encouraging everyone to include an object or photo as a kind of “show and tell”.
  • Post how much fun you had on your social media accounts. Just because your beast was robbed of a real Bachelorette doesn't mean you can't brag about how cool their virtual bash was!
