Wedding
This contemporary bride constructed her personal wedding ceremony venue!
You will * love * this modern + organic twist on a farmhouse wedding in the Midwest! Mainly because of the story behind this first look at Cliffside Acres – a brand new venue lovingly designed by the bride and built by her family and friends!
Jordan + Jim met on Bumble. When they were together with Jim, Jordan unexpectedly lost her beloved grandma Patricia. Patricia always hoped that her property would be used to love and serve others. When Jordan inherited the country, it became her dream too! With the encouragement and support of her family, including boyfriend Jim, Jordan started designing a wedding venue.
We are overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness of this wedding! Here Jordan shares some of his hopes before the wedding: It was important to Jim and me that our wedding day felt like us and that we were deliberate with every decision. There were several ways to do this, but when we got married at the venue we built on a property that means so much to my family, it felt special.
Liza Kirk photographed this beautiful day, which was literally a love work:
Modern details with depth
Owner of the modern bride + the venue
When it comes to fashion, Jordan knows what she likes! Jordan opted for a perfectly simple dress by Carolina Herrera with a V-neck. The modern bridal look was perfectly combined with heirloom gold jewelry + oversized Lele Sadoughi pearl earrings.
These maids look classically cool in black dresses from Rent The Runway!
One of my favorite parts of the day was our "first look" in the same place that Jim suggested. Jim's reaction to the first time I saw myself made me so glad we hired our videographer! Jim was completely overwhelmed with emotion and so frankly his expression.
Authentic reactions at first sight!
During the creation of the venue, Jim Jordan proposed in an intimate forest location where the trees form a transcendent canopy. It was a private proposal that was only witnessed by the immediate family. The couple later shared their first glimpse of the wedding day in the same place.
We love the formal-rustic contrasts here … especially with Jim's ivory tuxedo jacket with traditional black trousers from The Black Tux!
Modern wedding ceremony surrounded by love
Instead of a traditional aisle, guests lined the walkway out of the venue. What an emotionally effective picture for the bride! After the procession, guests took their seats in the 360-degree ceremony room between two maple trees, surrounded by a lush halo designed by Evergreen Floral Co. J + J were literally and figuratively surrounded by love!
Processional: Rivers and streets of the head and heart
Recession: Signed, sealed, delivered by Stevie Wonder
First dance: They are the best of Ray LaMontagne
Yes! Wedding puppies!
Off to the camp!
J + J knew that her day should serve as a celebration of the community in addition to her marriage. They started spoiling their wedding reception with a unique weekend experience and commissioned The Campfire Experience to build a glamping tipi village! Hosting and inviting J + J as a couple is something J + J likes to do as a couple. And talk about a radical after-party setup!
Classic, modern reception mood
Among other things, the couple's wedding planner, Meggie Francisco Events, designed an individual wine label with a painting by J + J and attached it to bottles of wine as a welcome gift. Too sweet!
Be deliberate on every aspect of your wedding day and choose elements that reflect who you are as a couple. If it serves no purpose or doesn't feel like you, ask yourself if it's important. Also write your own vows. It was absolutely the best decision we made for our wedding day. It's the perfect time to write down all the little promises you've made for years and tell your partner how much they mean to you. Jim and I both mentioned the same inside joke in our vows without coordinating. It was such a fun and poetic moment.
A dreamy wedding venue

Congratulations to Jordan + Jim – not only for their wonderful wedding, but also for the completion of a very nice venue in the Midwest! Cheers from GWS 🍾
